Will Growing Your Personal LinkedIn Profile Benefit Your Business?
Short answer? Absolutely.
Slightly longer answer? If you’re a business owner, freelancer, founder, or in charge of sales or growth on any team in 2025 and you’re still underestimating LinkedIn, you're not just behind—you’re invisible to the people who are most likely to hire, partner with, or feature you.
It’s time to change that.
The LinkedIn You Think You Know vs. The One That’s Actually Driving Results
For years, LinkedIn had a reputation as the stiff blazer of the social media world—formal, a little awkward, mostly filled with recruiter pitches and people bragging about promotions.
But that version is long gone. (If you use it right!)
Today, LinkedIn is a powerful thought leadership and relationship-building tool—and one of the most underutilized platforms for business growth. Not because it lacks potential, but because too many people misunderstand what it’s for.
It’s not just about job hunting anymore. It’s about authority, visibility, and connection. And most importantly, it’s about your personal brand.
In fact, here’s the most important truth you need to hear:
Your personal LinkedIn profile will almost always outperform your company page!
People don’t connect with brands. They connect with humans. They want the face behind the brand. The story. The values. The expertise. The receipts.
LinkedIn knows this too—its algorithm is designed to prioritize content from individual profiles over company accounts. Why? Because the data shows that people engage far more with people than with logos.
So while your business page can—and should—exist as a home base, your personal page is the real engine. That’s where conversations happen. That’s where deals start. That’s where trust is built.
If you’re running a business, one of the smartest strategies you can use is to activate your team’s personal profiles to repost and engage with business page content. It amplifies your reach and builds credibility through actual human voices. And yes, if you’re a solo founder—you are the strategy.
The Numbers Don’t Lie
Still not convinced? Let’s talk stats.
LinkedIn has 900M+ members globally. That’s nearly a billion professionals from every industry you can think of. Fortune 500 execs, investors, creators, journalists, recruiters, consultants, CMOs… all scrolling. All watching. (Source)
84% of B2B marketers say LinkedIn is their most effective social media platform. Why? Because of the quality of the leads. People aren’t on LinkedIn to doomscroll memes or watch cat videos. They’re there to learn, grow, and connect with others who can move their career—or business—forward. (Source)
In short? LinkedIn isn’t a back-burner platform. It’s a top-tier tool. And if you’re not active there, you’re likely missing out on:
Warm leads from potential clients.
Media requests or podcast invites.
Speaking opportunities.
Brand partnerships.
Investor interest.
Collaborations that never happen because people don’t know you exist.
& so much more!
What Happened When I Got Serious About LinkedIn - From Cucamonga Media’s Founder
Let me break down what changed when I stopped ignoring LinkedIn and started treating it like the business-building asset it is.
1. Credibility
Consistently posting insights, client wins, frameworks, and behind-the-scenes stories made me more trustworthy in the eyes of my network. It showed people I knew what I was talking about—without ever having to say “I’m an expert.”
People don’t want to be sold to. They want to see proof. They want to feel your expertise. Thoughtful LinkedIn posts make that happen. It also keeps you top of mind with your network (which you have invested a lot of time building!)
2. Search Visibility
I’ve had multiple clients reach out saying the same thing:
“I searched for ‘social media strategist’ on LinkedIn and you came up.”
If you’ve optimized your headline, bio, and content, your profile becomes a kind of living, breathing SEO hub. When people need what you do, they can find you without you ever running an ad.
3. Network Expansion
The more I engaged—commenting, sharing others’ content, tagging collaborators—the more opportunities opened up. Not just new followers, but aligned, high-quality connections. People I actually wanted to talk to.
LinkedIn rewards engagement. You don’t have to go viral. You just have to show up with value and connect like a human.
This requires that you are not just posting, you are sparking conversations on other people’s posts!
4. Top-of-Mind Awareness
You know that moment when someone says, “I saw your post and thought of you for this…”?
That’s the magic of consistency.
You don’t have to pitch every day. You just have to be present. Because when the need arises—for a speaker, a strategist, a brand partner—you want your name to come to mind first.
“But I’m Too Busy for Another Platform…”
I hear this all the time from founders and small business owners. And it’s valid. Your to-do list is already overflowing. You can’t add another “should.”
But here’s the good news: LinkedIn doesn’t need to be overwhelming to be effective. Here’s how I manage it:
✔ Batch and Schedule
I write 2–4 posts at a time, usually on a Sunday or Monday, and schedule them for the week. Tools like Buffer, Hypefury, or even native scheduling make this easy.
✔ Repurpose Existing Content
That blog post you wrote? Turn it into a list-style post. That client win? Turn it into a case study. That spicy opinion from your team Slack? Turn it into a hot take.
You don’t need new ideas. You need to present your existing brilliance in LinkedIn-friendly formats.
LinkedIn Hack: Want to post a carousel on LinkedIn? Don’t upload individual images—export your multi-image infographic as a PDF in Canva, then upload that PDF to LinkedIn using the document upload option (yep, it’s a different button than “photo”). LinkedIn will display each page as a swipeable carousel.
✔ Engage Instead of Create
On busy weeks, I may not post anything new—but I’ll spend 10 minutes a day commenting on others’ posts, tagging people, or re-sharing something thoughtful.
Engagement keeps you visible. It also builds reciprocity: the more you show up for others, the more they show up for you.
✔ Outsource What You Can
If LinkedIn just isn’t your thing, hire help. A content strategist or VA can take your ideas, turn them into posts, and manage the scheduling. You still show up—but without the mental drain.
(Shameless plug: This is one of the things we help our clients with. If you’re interested, we can set up a free discovery call to chat strategy!)
Still Not Sure? Consider This:
Imagine someone hears about your business. They Google you. They land on your LinkedIn.
Is it up to date?
Does it tell a clear story of what you do and who you help?
Does it show proof that you’re credible?
Does it feel like the online version of who you really are?
If not—you’re missing out.
LinkedIn is often the first impression people get of you. It’s the modern-day business card, media kit, and pitch deck all rolled into one. If your profile is half-baked or abandoned, it sends a signal you don’t want it to.
And let’s not forget:
LinkedIn personal pages massively outperform business pages.
LinkedIn isn’t just for getting a job—it’s for growing a brand.
The people with the biggest personal brands on LinkedIn are already leveraging this.
So why not you?
How to Get Started (or Restarted) on LinkedIn Today
If you’re ready to treat your LinkedIn like the revenue-generating asset it is, here’s your fast-start plan:
1. Refresh Your Profile
Update your headline to reflect your current offer and niche.
Make your banner image visually reflect your brand.
Use a clear, friendly, professional headshot. (Shameless plug #2: another area we help clients with–let’s get you some new headshots!)
Rewrite your “About” section in first person, with a mix of personality and positioning.
Add keywords that people would search to find someone like you.
2. Start Posting Once a Week
Choose a content theme:
A client win
A myth you want to bust
A tip or framework you use often
A lesson you’ve learned
A behind-the-scenes story
Keep it clear, personal, and helpful. LinkedIn readers want substance—not fluff.
3. Engage Daily (5–10 Minutes Max)
Comment on 3–5 posts from people you respect.
Share 1 post with a personal insight added.
Send a thank-you message to a new follower or commenter.
That’s it. Rinse and repeat.
Final Thoughts
If you’ve been sleeping on LinkedIn, this is your nudge to wake up.
You don’t have to go full “thought leader.” You don’t need to post every day. But you do need to recognize the opportunity in front of you.
In 2025, visibility is currency. And LinkedIn is one of the highest-value markets for building that visibility authentically.
It’s where relationships begin, deals get sparked, and reputations are built—one post, one comment, one connection at a time.
So… are you using LinkedIn to grow your business?
If not, what’s really holding you back?
Because your future clients, partners, and opportunities? They’re already there. Scrolling. Searching. Waiting to discover you!
